Make The Buildings You Want

There are lots of places where you can buy scenery for your layout, whether they are printable kits, put together models or ready made. But there will come a time when you want to add something to your layout and you won’t be able to find a model of it. This is especially true if you are modelling your layout based on a real area and/or on a particular era. So rather than just settling for what you can get, build it yourself. Scratchbuilding is a great way to make your layout unique and get the buildings that you want. It’s also enjoyable 🙂

Check out this video from the talented DJ from DJ’s Trains, where he shows how he goes about modelling a real building that he wanted for his layout.

Dan Morgan

Dan Morgan fell in love with model trains at the age of six when he visited an NMRA Convention in Seattle with his father. Forty two years later, his passion remains just as strong. With a wealth of knowledge on the subject, Dan loves nothing more than sharing this with others and is delighted in the forum of members who are brought together over the hobby they have in common. Dan lives with his wife Helen in Washington. As a professional painter, Helen has learnt through Dan about Model Trains and they now enjoy working on projects together. The only member of the family who isn’t allowed to join in is their over-enthusiastic Labrador called William who has been strictly banned from the workshop! You can find Dan on Google here!
