Five Holiday-themed Model Train Videos

Thanksgiving is over and I am stuffed like the proverbial turkey! And with Thanksgiving, we begin a six-week long period of various fall/winter holidays. No matter what holiday(s) you observe during this period, we here at Model Trains for Beginners hope that model trains somehow plays a part. To get you in the holiday spirit, I present to you five holiday-themed model train videos that I absolutely love.

Bill Aston’s Christmas model train layout – This short six-and-a-half-minute video shows a wonderful little Lionel layout under modeler Bill Aston’s Christmas tree. It includes audio of not only the train sounds, but train crews talking to one another. The trains chug through a snowy holiday village and can’t help but bring out the child in all of us.

Christmas Holiday Model Train Railroad Layout G O HO H.O. N Gauge Scale Del Webb Sun City Huntley IL – This fifteen-minute video showcases a nice-looking holiday-themed layout with trains of multiple scales and gauges. With the larger scales closest and smaller scales further away, the layout creates a false perspective of distance in a wonderful way. All of the trains snake through a winter wonderland that brings a sense of joy and wonder to the viewer.

Christmas Train Village – 2009 (Livingston, TX) – This video is about nine-and-a-half-minutes long and features a beautiful O scale layout with a Christmas village theme. Trains roll through the village as well as snow-covered mountains, hauling Christmas trees and gifts. This is a fun holiday layout with some hidden gems, like sledders going down a hill and a sign warning of a “penguin crossing”.

2016 Holiday Spectacular + Christmas Train Show at Infoage – This short little nine minute video features multiple trains and layouts at a model train show, all running with a winter/holiday theme. There are various scales and gauges represented and several trains operating at once. It all serves to bring a smile to the face of kids and kids-at-heart.

How to make a Christmas Village Railroad – Want to build your own winter/holiday themed layout? This video walks through the steps in less than four minutes! While the layout in the video is O scale, these techniques will work for any scale, from TT to G.
