Five Great Garden Railway Videos

Five Great Garden Railway Videos

Here in the Northern Hemisphere, spring is well under way (at least in most places – I’m currently watching snow fall outside my window as I write this!), and for many folks that means gardening has begun. If you love model trains and gardens, you can combine the two hobbies in a garden railway.

Garden railways are often, but not always, large scale – G being typical. They are usually only operable during the spring, summer, and part of the autumn (depending on where you live, of course), but can provide hours of enjoyment for you, your friends and family, and any passers-by that can see your garden and the trains running through it.

I’ve scoured YouTube and found five great garden railway videos for you to enjoy. They may give you ideas for your own model railroad of any scale or they may just be fun to watch. Either way, enjoy!

Reading RR Plow Train – G Scale: Though most garden railways operate in spring and summer, with good weather, sometimes conditions are right to bring out your special equipment in the winter. This video is a beautiful kitbashed snowplow pushed by three Reading GP35s. They struggle coming back, and that’s very realistic. I’ve seen video of real railroads struggling through compacted snow before.

Smoke billows out of tunnels as trains exit, in perfect simulation of what it’s actually like when a steam engine blasts out of a tunnel.

There you have it, five great garden railway videos to inspire you or just to provide an hour or so of entertainment. If you have a garden railway, feel free to share the link to any videos in the comments!
