5 Great Live Steam Videos

Live steam – large scale model trains that use actual working model steam locomotives – is one of the most amazing aspects of the world’s greatest hobby. When most think of live steam they are thinking about 5” or 7.5” gauge trains, though there are a variety of live steam scales, from small G scale up to 20” gauge. Even when using model diesel locomotives, they are often lumped into the “live steam” tag.

These types of model trains are extremely realistic in appearance and are so powerful that they can actually haul adult passengers! The operator often actually sits on the tender of the steam engines or the model diesel and operates it while riding.

If you want to get into live steam modeling, there are clubs all over the world. Contact one in your local or regional area and find out what you might do get into the hobby.

Here are 5 great live steam videos, now, to whet your appetite! Enjoy!
