Readers Photos: More From Builder Kim

Here are some more photos from Builder Kim of his incredible scratch builds.

“Hi Dan,

Hers is a power station made from junk. Since the picture was taken it has been upgraded. I also have info on making those fences you see with barbwire. On part of my layout I do tests. Make a suggestion look carefully at the objects. Each is hand made other than the cars. Like my pool don’t you. Would you believe its a painted spice container lid, with a piece of plastic painted blue on the underside with a little white and stuck inside. The rest of the pool is painted blue with a little white as well. The satellite dishes and mail boxes, I made those  as well. The side walks which I added are more realistic, I think, than those other ones you buy where they are so wide you can drive a truck on them. Sorry about the color I picked, it was all I had. See the guard rails for traffic, those are made from a plastic mushroom container. The swing set in the garden of the last photo is made from tooth picks.

So what do you think? I have plans for them all. Let me know what you would like to see.

Thanks
Kim”

Dan Morgan

Dan Morgan fell in love with model trains at the age of six when he visited an NMRA Convention in Seattle with his father. Forty two years later, his passion remains just as strong. After achieving a successful career in architecture, Dan’s particular interest is within layouts and buildings. With a wealth of knowledge on the subject, Dan loves nothing more than sharing this with others and is delighted in the forum of members who are brought together over the hobby they have in common. Dan lives with his wife Helen in Washington. As a professional painter, Helen has learnt through Dan about Model Trains and they now enjoy working on projects together. The only member of the family who isn’t allowed to join in is their over-enthusiastic Labrador called William who has been strictly banned from the workshop! You can find Dan on Google here!
