Layout Scenery: “Coburn Raceway”

To really bring a layout to life, it’s important to add details and elements to the background which aren’t necessarily train related. Houses, towns and villages, etc can change the look of your layout from a model train set to being a “real world” where people live.

For his layout, Guy has added a Dragstrip Raceway in HO scale, to add some depth and character to his layout. You may remember that previously I featured some other builds from Guy that included a race horse track. You can see those here.

This is Guys latest project:

“HI DAN,

THIS IS COBURN RACEWAY, A DRAGSTRIP IN HO SCALE. ALL OF THE STRUCTURES ARE MADE OF PAPER AND WOOD. THE PAPER KITS ARE FROM A COMPANY CALLED “INNOVATIVE HOBBY”.

THE TREES ARE ALL HAND MADE FROM KITS. MOST OF THE PEOPLE, (OVER 400), ARE FROM CHINA. THE LOGOS ON THE WALL WERE MADE ON MY COMPUTER.

THE CARS ARE FROM VARIOUS COMPANIES INCLUDING HOTWHEELS, HERPA AND “PROMO’S” FROM MacDONALDS. THE AMBULANCE STARTED OUT AS A PLAIN WHITE VAN. I GLUED THE DECORATIONS ON. THEY WERE ALL PURCHASED ON EBAY.

IT TOOK ABOUT SIX WEEKS TO BUILD.

GUY”

Dan lives with his wife Helen in Washington. As a professional painter, Helen has learnt through Dan about Model Trains and they now enjoy working on projects together. The only member of the family who isn’t allowed to join in is their over-enthusiastic Labrador called William who has been strictly banned from the workshop! You can find Dan on Google here!
