Really good pics.
i enjoyed all the pictures that were shown,it give me ideas for my layout thanks to all the people that biult the layouts
That is what i was expecting to see.
Like the photos and it was very enjoyable.
Many thanks for posting these great photos and thanks to all of the modelers out there who sent them in. I’m a total novice at this and I learned a lot just looking at the photos. One thing I noticed is the use of backgrounds. Sky, mountains and distant forest scenes really add depth and scope to the layouts…and they seem to be easy enough to do.
Very enjoyable I am planning on building a 4 by 8 O scale and would love to see some track plans for that layout.
The various layouts and pictures have given me several new ideas. I want to thank everyone that submitted pictures and Dan for posting them. It is a great way to learn.
Great inspiration ! It would be better if the model trains were ID’d, as in N scale. So much can be done with the smaller gage. I’ve loved to work with the small trains since I was a kid. Looking at all this brings back memories and newer ideas. Thank you.
In answer to Ron Whittingham on 4×8 O scale layouts, I got a lot of ideas that helped me decide on my final 027 4×8 layout from the following site: http://www.thortrains.net/index.htm. It also details O and 027 layouts. I found I needed to go with 027 to fit in all of my wishes, but that decision has limited my selectivity on engines. Full O scale engines won’t navigate 027 turnouts. But some O scale engines will… you just have to be careful. Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eric.
Great set of pictures with lots of ideas, this will help most beginners as how to design their layout.
At our club we used 1 inch wide cardboard with a basket stile of stiching leaving 4 inch open squares for our mountians & hills. Then we glued newspaper to this, let it dry, & put a thin layer of Hydro-Cal ( industrial grade of plaster paris) over it. Once the thicker layous have dried we pulled out the cardboard and paper from openings under the layout making it more fire proof. This will help in the use of less paper on larger structures.
I just built an addition on my home. I have designated an area about 15 feet long, and a depth of 3 feet, with three sections coming out 5-6 feet. Basically, the train area will be shaped like the letter E. This will be a totally new train setup to me. I am a real beginner, and probably bit off more than I expected…but this has been a dream of mine to create. I know I want “water” and bridges, tunnels and higher and lower height tracks, so two trains can pass each other. I have bought books for beginners, layout books and more. At this point I am a little overwhelmed! ANY suggestions, tips or ideas will be appreciated. Also if there is a book out there that will help…let me know. One other thing…I bought three train kits, all included transformers. Is there a guide on how I should wire them together? Or do I designate three separate tracks for each train?
Thank in advance for any help. Kathy
Liked the full shots of the layouts…they offered great ideas for novices and intermediates.
These are Great Pictures to look at from all the talented train enthusiast. I have gotten many ideas from everyone who sent a photo in. I couldn’t make up my mind on which track layout I was wanting to do. I still have some ideas but i’m laying them out right now. I just wish there were train shows down here in Texas like there are up there. Keep up the great work everyone. I have enjoyed every bit of the wonderful photos.
thank you,
