Great to see this complex layout. In 1968, I visited Norden with my cousins (we were hanging out in the Sierra Club near Donner Lake . We walked right down the snow tunnel protecting the homes build alongside Norden, right down to the tracks. We were invited into the signal room by the signaller and viewed the track graphics as a triple-header was making its way in from Oakland, with a full load of Japanese vehicles imported at the coast and heading East. They uncoupled the two front locomotives at the top of the grade and the train proceeded on to Chicago. We were told that return traffic would carry fresh beef from the Illinois stockyards!
As a European visitor, one could not grasp the size and bulk of these US locomotives, until you stood alongside them!
